The Pros and Cons

PROS

You don't have to wait for your own hair to grow, you can have long hair in a matter of hours instead of waiting years for it to grow. If you hair is fine you can have thick, glamorous hair, something that would be impossible to achieve without extensions. You can add colour without the commitment of colouring your own hair and add curl without perming your own hair. If applied correctly, Hair Extensions will be easy to look after and won't add hours to your morning routine.

CONS

The main drawback is cost, in order for hair extensions to look great you need to use good quality hair and that comes at a premium. How hair extensions are applied is also very important, if applied poorly your natural hair will be damaged. Finally, not all types of hair are suitable for hair extensions, a thorough consultation will be needed to ascertain this.

WARNING!!

Mobile Hair Extensions? STAY AWAY! Anybody can start doing mobile hair extensions without any training. It is completely unregulated and in my opinion should be banned. Only professional salons have access to the finest quality hair and hair extension products. The best suppliers will not sell to mobile hairdressers, so the hair they use will be of sub standard quality regardless of what they claim. Mobile hairdressers will also not be insured to carry out such work. Applying hair extensions is not something that is taught at hairdressing school and is an extremely specialised field of hairdressing and takes years of experience to master.

I hear hair extensions horror stories all the time and nine out of ten times it involves a mobile hairdresser. People are tempted because it is often cheaper but please don't be tempted, invest in a set of good quality Clip-in Extensions instead (see types of extensions).
